Holometabolous Insect Orders: An Overview
Some eighty percent of insects undergo complete metamorphosis (“holometaboly”) to reach adulthood, and this lifecycle can be summarised in four …
Entomologically Speaking, I Am Not a Beekeeper,
For Honey bees are wild animals, and we only “have” them; they decide whether to leave or stay. Alas, “Beehaver” is more dreary than deary, so “Beekeeper” stays. I do like bees. Cuckoo bees, Sweat bees, Mining bees, Blue-banded bees, Boobees, Honey bees, Mimickers-of-Bees… the list goes on. These articles go beyond how-to-beekeeping with the European honey bee Apis mellifera. I provide you with relevant (and irrelevant) content ranging from entomology and botany to toxicology and industry.
The number of websites dedicated to just “bees” in place of “bee-keeping” is small. Can you imagine sifting through dozens of scientific papers just to learn how the giant honey bees (Apis dorsata) fly on moonlit nights? I did, so you don’t have to: their larger compound eyes enable them to navigate in dim light, and their larger muscles help withstand the cooler temperatures.
This started out as fun project in February 2023. To the surprise of myself and my haters (of which, I could use more of), I’m still going. In June 2026, “theHolyHabibee” rebranded to “Entomologically” to provide a more-professional tone to these topics. Fear naught, The Holy Habibee continues to pen (type? click-clack?) these lines; his acoustism is far too complex for the robot writers.
