Shirts, Socials & Stopping Slop
In 2025:
- 22 posts published, 19 were content-based
- The three non-content posts:
- Introducing shirts, May 2025
- AI Deslopification, August 2025 (better late than never)
- Introducing video content, November 2025 (harder than I thought)
- The three non-content posts:
- Seven posts removed
- Earlier articles of when I was starting out that do not fit in with the broader content. Examples:
- “School honey projects” –> ??
- “What is scientific beekeeping” –> Really??
- “Organic honey bees” –> Ok, I was trying to game SEO with that one… how far we’ve come!
- Earlier articles of when I was starting out that do not fit in with the broader content. Examples:
- Collaborated with a beekeeping-app-developer for a test run of their datalogging software
- Expanded onto YouTube & X – more active on the latter. Currently enjoying various “bee of the day” posts (up to #80 as of writing)
- Video expansion is easy in theory, hard in practice. I have the scripts and the footage, and I’m working on the editing prowess
- Opened an online store for T-shirts & also custom print jobs. I’ve had better luck with the custom services than my own work, oh well.
- Marketing & ads were unsuccessful (thus far). Etsy shop opened and closed after six months of no activity… Is this a case of too much juggling or skill issues?
Popularity Rankings
The three most popular posts were:
- Sex determination in honey bees, August 2025
- Honey bee predators, April 2024
- How to check for Varroa, December 2023
The three least popular posts were… many. There are many pages with zero hits!
Pity I didn’t do reviews in 2023 & 2024.
Wins and Losses
The major wins this year were from the expansion onto socials is a big one, also the launching of the shirts. “You Can Just Do Things”. The article content has moved into niche & advanced topics, whether this is a natural progression from exhausting the basics, or a reflection of what I’m interested in, I’ll let you decide.
Current Challenges:
- Breaking into neuro- anything; honey bee brains, vision and coordination, nervous systems. The fundamentals of this field are more complex than others
- Difficulty rating: 5/10 – a textbook on the topic would suffice
- Prioritising video over written content. In terms of “bang for your buck” – videos are superior to the written form, because the global literarcy & attention span have plummeted
- Difficulty: 6/10 – I like writing, and I am not bound by anyone’s rules (e,g, Youtube ToS). Gathering content and editing it is no issue, the difficulty comes from juggling both publishing formats.
- Skill issue
- Difficulty: 6/10 – I like writing, and I am not bound by anyone’s rules (e,g, Youtube ToS). Gathering content and editing it is no issue, the difficulty comes from juggling both publishing formats.
- Build interest for my shirts… I think they’re neat
- Difficulty: 3/10 – it’s not hard to sell anything, and the success from passive advertising has been remarkable. A case of juggling responsibilities is the big one
What to Expect in 2026
More niche content to come. Beekeeping is great and bee biology is greater. I would like to turn more articles into videos, which makes it accessible to a greater audiences. The written form will remain for those who want the details. As with everyone else, curious to see how AI/governments continue reshaping the digital ecosystem.
